Getting married
Notice of Intended Marriage
The first step to getting married. Your Notice of Intended Marriage must be completed and lodged at least one calendar month before the ceremony, but no-more that 18 months prior. This is usually done at either your house one of our offices (Pakenham or Wallan or Werribee) .
Declaration
The 'declaration of no legal impediment to marriage' is the second legal document that needs to be completed in order to meet the requirements to have your marriage legally solemnised. It must be signed by the couple and be witnessed by your celebrant before your ceremony begins.
The Ceremony
We perform your ceremony either at your home / at one of my partner venues. From this moment you are married. You receive your offical commemorative certificate. We can also order your legal certificate from BDM if you want.

What you need to get married - The Basic Details -
Be eligible
- be at least 18 years old, unless a court has approved a marriage where 1 person is 16-18 years old
- not be married
- not be marrying a parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, brother or sister
- understand what marriage means and freely agree to marry
- As our celebrants only speak English, English is required to be understood by both the couple and witnesses.
What you will need to supply to your celebrant for the NoIM
Ideally provide 2 of the following:
- Passport
- Birth Certificate
- Drivers Licence
Other ID can be used if needed, discuss with your celebrant.
If you have been married before, you will need to produce your divorce certificate or death certificate if your previous spouse is deceased.
What happens at the Ceremony
At the ceremony, the certificate mrs be signed by:
- you and your fiancé
- your marriage celebrant (us)
- two witnesses, who must be over 18 years old and understand spoken English.
Your authorised marriage celebrant will give you a certificate of marriage on the day. This is a ceremonial certificate of your marriage.
You can apply for your legal certificate, or your celebrant can apply on your behalf (at a small fee)
